Song of the Week! Will Bradley & Ray McKinley’s All That Meat and No Potatoes

This week’s song is from Drea:

  • All That Meat and No Potatoes
  • Will Bradley & Ray McKinley

I always enjoy finding different versions of songs. Although the Fats Waller version that Mandi uses in her warm-up is the first one that comes to mind for me, here’s a less common version of a classic that everyone knows.

Song of the week! November 17th, Take The “A” Train, Duke with Ella!

This week’s song is from Shannon:

Take the “A” Train
Duke Ellington

Here with Ella Fitzgerald!

This is one of the best known songs in swing history. Ever wonder where it came from? Composed by Billy Strayhorn, who worked with Duke Ellington. The Duke Ellington Orchestra made it famous.

Here’s an interesting alternate version of the song as sung by Ella Fitzgerald.

Song of the Week! Friday, November 9th – Swing Out To Victory by Fats Waller

This week’s song is from Mandi:

It’s only fitting that we prepare for Swing Out To Victory 2012 with the song with the same title by Fats Waller.

Song of the Week! November 2nd – Tar Paper Stomp (In the Mood Origins) by Wingy Manone

This week’s song is from Drea!

“Neat — just found this song, with info that it was the basis of Glenn Miller’s hit. In the notes, there’s even reference to another song before this one — called Clarinet Getaway, by the Jimmy O’Bryant Washboard Wonders, 1925.”

Song of the Week – October 5th – Savoy

Swing song of the weekSong: Savoy

This one goes out to one of our wonderful Worker Bees, Andrew! He had this song stuck in his head last week and was trying to track down a version of it. It’s pretty darn catchy, that’s for sure.
